SS08 - 'LAYER CAKE'
"Layer Cake” SS08 collection derives its inspiration from ordinary swatch packs sent from textile companies used in selling and showing fabrics-
Shoulder pads, collars, and trims are created from multiple layers of chiffon - lazor cut and carefully hand placed and stitched in graduating size and colour – simulating the thick edges and volume of common “samples”. Zigzag edges are also used referencing scissors used in swatch making.
Shoulder pads have as many as 50 layers to create an “accessory” to be buttoned on and worn outside the garment. A bolero jacket has been created also thru layering with 10 jackets all slightly smaller in size to reveal textural colour changes-
The layering concept is also carried thru on fabric choices from chiffon dresses to sheer nylon rib stock and plastic coat.
Dot lace insets expose shoulders and complete the slightly 80s feel with a gentle focus on the shoulder thru-out the collection.
Finally Michelle Lowe-Holder signature bead smocking on necklines (--now continuing for its 5th season) - is now set with pearl beads in hues of cream/coffee and golden yellow with delicate tulle complete with collection zigzag edges
