SS13 - '"ELIZABETH"'
The “the faerie queene", the “virgin queen” or the last Tudor, Elizabeth 1st embodies a figure both fragile and brutal, powerful and vulnerable. Her allure, legacy and beauty is the inspiration behind the collection.
British heritage feels more relevant than ever – with pageantry and tradition beckoning - the royal wedding of 2011, recent Queens Jubilee and the Olympics in London – British pride has been ignited and its history revisited.
“Elizabeth” stands as an enigmatic figure whom still averages the publishing of her story at least once a year, amazingly 400 years on.
The collection seeks to play with historic references to create a new modern opulence - Lush metallic leather cut-offs and vintage ribbons coupled with gold and silver metal accents mix with natural cork. Graphic stripes of Kelly green, crisp fresh white and warm cocoa form necklaces and cuffs. Delicate scalloped edges in gold and silver mixed with lacquered wood and marbled cork embody Tudor detailing in a hard and modern way. Finally accents of acid yellow with natural wood and glass pearl beads add a summery, feminine and timeless feel.
The collection is all sampled and hand made in the UK – using cut-offs and vintage materials. The Michelle Lowe-Holder label is an eco-hybrid brand striving for the maximum use of sustainable and eco friendly materials, quality and making .
